WEG retrofit day

Date: 8th February 2025 — 2-4pm —

It was great to go to the WEG open day on retrofit – I got the bus up from Bristol, and arrived at the beautifully refurbished St Michael’s Hall in Winterbourne, where there’s clearly been a lot of attention to insulation, good quality windows, and heating controls.

Winterbourne Environmental Group, who are now one of our founding members, had organised a great event with stalls, tea and cake, information about the CHEESE project’s thermal imaging offer, and a very informative talk from Retrofit West about everything they offer to local residents. I went home and booked a CHEESE survey for my house, using a voucher from the Retrofit West website – so very productive!

A local resident told her story of heat pump woes and joys – a very engaging blow by blow of what went wrong with her heat pump installation, and how she got it all sorted out so that it now works really well.  They also had a draught-proof snake-making activity, which the children enjoyed.

This was an important opportunity to get to know WEG members and be inspired by the great work already happening – as our purpose as an organisation is to help connect and share learnings between groups, not to reinvent the wheel.
